No Room For A Wallflower: A Lancer Campaign. For Real This Time

The deck of the light carrier is warm and humid, a welcome change after the dry cold of stasis. Dim, recessed lighting glows a gentle amber to let your eyes adapt to seeing once more. The stasis headache is a miserable bastard – you’ll have to reassess your hydration cocktail, shout at the autodoc for that one – but tea and a seat will help. For now, you are the only ones awake on this deck. The artificial dawn is yours to enjoy. You pad barefoot from your roomette to an observation blister, find a couch, and sit. The dome above you populates, void blooming across an opaque hexagonal field like ink dropped on a blank page.

Space. You sit alone on a soft, semi-gimballed couch, the vacuum of space projected around you. Your gut twists and the old fear sends a bolt of adrenaline to the back of your throat, but it passes; you know you’re still inside the observation blister. A jade and white disk hangs on the velvet field above you. Hercynia. Big as a dinner table. What do you know about the place? Not much, and the packet was slim: early testing ground for the mechanized chassis, hostile local fauna, isolated for centuries before being forgotten, rediscovered and snapped up by a high-risk firm with a few other colonies under its belt. Apparently there was a local indigenous population that the original colonists didn't know about, which led to some legal tangle between SSC and Union.

A mess, in other words. An emerald mess.

You order the ship to play the sound of rain. You lay back upon the couch, tea on your chest – it’s still a little too hot – and float, surrounded by stars. You’ll be there in a few days. Around you, the others are waking up. Systems organic and synthetic cycling to life. Some of you might not return to this little ship. Maybe you’ll die down on that world. But right now you have the sound of rain. The hush of broad fronds rasping against their neighbors. The background hiss of air. The comfortable gravity.

Peace.

Your slate pings in your pocket. The amber light floods the periphery of the blister. Your aurals hum a notification tone.

Ah well. Time to go to work.

No Room For A Wallflower is a prewritten Lancer Campaign that I intend to run as soon as scheduling permits, as most of the work has already been done for us. It will be played through Roll20.net, so an account there will be necessary but signing up is easy and free. It will likely be scheduled in the morning (no earlier than 7am PST. I'm kind of an early riser but there are limits), and on a weekday, but we will investigate all possibilities.

The story is about a team of relatively rookie lancers investigating a distress call from a small colony that no one really thought was that important, only to find out the situation was more complicated than they expected. It came with the following content warning:

Do note that this campaign discusses or grapples with genocide, colonialism, displacement of refugees, and the trauma of war. Though they are fictional in this narrative (Wallflower does not depict real-world atrocities), these scenes may echo historical and ongoing events.

Name: Emily
Availability: I get off work at 2 PM ET Mon/Tues, so I could conceivably by in game by 2:30 ET (11:30 AM PT)
Familiarity with the Lancer rules/setting: I read 'em
Possible character concepts: The two main concepts I've had for a Lancer campaign have been
1. A former Smith-Shimano assassin, a member of the Constellar Midnight, on the run / in hiding / changed identities after flubbing up a mission and being deemed "too risky" to leave around. Her goals are twofold; figure out just WHY her failed mission failed, and then get SSC to leave her the fuck alone. Assassin/stealth SSC mech builds.
2. A civilian who came into prolonged contact with an unshackled NHP. It's gone but an echo of it lives in her head still. Extremely cavalier attitude towards unshackled NHPs, generally just kind of Tired of their bullshit. "Oh, so now you're taking control of my machine, real mature" etc. If involved with other stuff it would be HORUS. Also pilots HORUS mechs.
Questions?: what's updog?

2:30 PM (Eastern) is the earliest I can start. I would prefer more time in between yes, IF POSSIBLE. But I would rather play in a game starting at 2:30 than not play in it at all.

Availability: 10 am PST onwards, Tu/Wed/Fri/Sat. Noon PST onwards, Mon/Thur.
Familiarity with the Lancer rules/setting: Read through the book (but not this module), extensive use of COMP/CON to create hypothetical Lancers.
Possible character concepts:
-- Shady former smuggler who spent a fortune to get their record wiped clean, is trying to go "legit" as a mercenary lancer.
-- Spacer grease monkey, the kind that talks to their mechs late at night when they think nobody else is listening.
-- Tired lancer vet overseeing the rookies; in semi-retirement because they thought they could handle the easy jobs without having to do that much work.
Questions?: What license level are we starting at? Everybody's got Everests, or do we start with some more flexibility?

Name: Kaja
Availability: Any morning. This timeslot is very open for me. Afternoons is also open, but depending on the start time might run into medicine time and dinner time. Evenings are somewhat less available (Wednesdays and Saturdays are unavailable, possibly Tuesdays eventually depending on if Project Lorica resumes on the same timeslot).
Familiarity with the Lancer rules/setting: None, but currently reading the book.
Possible character concepts: Body modification surgeon with a chimeric amount of mods herself, who got sentenced to penal labor on some stupid backwater planet for performing unlicensed mods for the poor. The penal colony was a huge mess and things blew up and the reason she's still alive is luck and her mods.
Questions?: Does this concept work?

Availability: generally available after 9am pst, can shuffle it to 7am given advance notice.
Familiarity with the Lancer rules/setting: have the pdf, have skimmed through the pdf and looked at the pictures
Possible character concepts:
- scarred, grizzled veteran who has seen too much shit and is about a hair away from being done with crap. tanky.
- young hotblooded idiot, I have not played an idiot in a while
- fuck it, au time, it's Seraphine de fucking Rosales and this is her backstory

Sick.

My super cool robot video didn't embed proper so here is the belated offering

Name: Sven / [plurk.com profile] svensational / svensational#5444
Availability: For mornings: I get home from night shift work roughly anywhere between 9:30a and 10:30a EST (6:30a / 7:30a PST), and typically try to go to bed somewhere between 12 and 2 PM EST. Tuesday and Fridays are the hard sell because of an infrequently-running DnD game and needed for guest slots for Kingdom Valor, but could theoretically do any other day.
Familiarity with the Lancer rules/setting: Have read through the book (but not this module)
Possible character concepts: - A former MSMC company commander who fell off the books because him and his squad got wiped out by their last employer, trying to go legit. Prefers IPS-N Mechs.
- A hotshot rookie who loves the thrill of danger, who has yet to see the horror of ground combat firsthand, probably piloting a Tokugawa or other high-heat HA-based frame.

Questions?: I'm assuming Long Rim mechs are fine for this?
