The peaceguard goes where it is needed, and unfortunately that meant that sometimes you had to spend a week wandering down crappy dirt roads in the middle of nowhere. There was talk of Alderode sympathizers on a border town that Elka had to go hunt them down. Boring. Shitty.

This whole part of the country was weird. Already, she had spent a weekend dealing with some weird...things that had given her horns and messed with her sense of hearing. It was only dumb luck that she had run into a guy who knew how to deal with things like that.

She'd been heading in the same direction as this strange traveling doctor (Or "Mushishi" as he called himself) so they had spent the last few days idly chatting to relieve the tedium of travel. In a weird sort of way, this Ginko character reminded her of the captain. They had the same feeling of internal optimism about them. That feeling that any problem laid in your way would be one you could deal with. It was attractive in a man.

That morning, though, they had noticed storm clouds on the horizon, which was odd weather for this time of year. It was also a problem, as Elka had been expecting sunny skies and had packed accordingly. She dug a light jacket out of her pack and put it on as the rain started, but it wasn't a very waterproof jacket.
